Free Finds Service for landowners and members of the public

It is simple to report lost items

Our Western Region covers the area from Gloucester: into South Wales: throughout Wiltshire and into Devon. Member clubs are situated in all of these areas and we circulate your loss to our members and usually one or more will try to assist.

Here is how we can try to help you and the process is simple to follow, but firstly just a bit of information about using a metal detector.

Permission is required to metal detect anywhere, unless of course the land where the item was lost is the property of the loser. However, in the majority of cases we still need your written permission to search and this is just in case other items are located during the search.

Such items would be valued and if valued over £100 would be split 50%/50% with the landowner. Any items found during a search that could be subject to the Treasure Act must be reported to the Coroner in whose district they were found within 14 days of discovery. You do not have to concern yourself with this as the detectorist helping you will know the procedure.

HOW IT WORKS

  • You have lost an item,

  • Email details to davidrees55@aol.com,

  • Include your full name: address: contact telephone number(s): location of loss and a picture of the item if you have this available,

  • If you own the land confirm this, otherwise try to include the full details of the landowner in order that we can make contact with the person.

We cannot promise to find everything we search for, and often items are not lost where the loser believes them to be. However, to try and fail is far better than not trying at all.

We look forward to hearing from you.
